The Black Tuxedos

The Black Tuxedos Band, originating out of Emporia, KS, have been appearing at festivals, fairs and special events throughout Kansas with outstanding reviews from promoters and attendees alike with a distinctively new and fresh approach to the world of modern rock music. Having been formed in 2005 by Luke Phillips and JD Pedersen, the band has been writing, recording, and performing original instrumental modern rock compositions that border on classic rock, but yet combines the flavor, drive, and tonal characteristics of the modern rock sound. Think Joe Satriani meets Iron Maiden hooking up with Savatage and you start to get the picture! Looking to set themselves apart from the mainstream modern rock bands, their distinctive style employs elements of multiple genres transformed into modern instrumental rock. Black Tuxedos members include Luke Phillips and JD Pedersen on guitar, Rick Garcia on bass, and Jason Williams on drums.

This is a one night only conclave, featuring members of  Warlok, Hellbent, Backlash and Fyrestorm.
You wanna make an omlet, you gotta break a few eggs!

We will be doing some classic rock and roll with a serious edge and some 80's metal, and who knows what else. Featuring me, the Mutant, Tom Wiley on guitar, Ken Harries on drums and Dennis Denger on bass.
You know what to expect...the unexpected, so don't miss out!

Black Oak Arkansas

Returning for the fourth time for the Real OzFest show are my good friends,
Jim Dandy and Black Oak Arkansas!

Originally called "The Knowbody Else", was formed in 1965 in Black Oak Arkansas, BOA was the original Southern Rock group whose boogie philosophy and long-haired, bare-chested frontman, Jim Dandy Mangrum, were amazingly popular in the early to mid-'70s. All of the band's original members grew up in rural Arkansas near the small town of Black Oak. They toured the South as Knowbody Else and released one album on Stax before moving to L.A. in 1969 and changing their name to Black Oak Arkansas. They soon signed with Atlantic, the first of several labels for which they recorded.

The major albums include:
# The Knowbody Else
# Black Oak Arkansas
# Keep the Faith
# If An Angel Came to See You, Would You Make Her Feel at Home?
# Raunch 'n' Roll Live
# High on the Hog
# Street Party
# Early Times
# Ain't Life Grand
# X-Rated
# Live! Mutha
# Balls of Fire
# 10 Year Overnight Success
# Race with the Devil
# I'd Rather Be Sailing
# Ready as Hell
# The Black Attack is Back
# King Biscuit Flower Hour (live)
# Wild Bunch and many other ep's, bootlegs and compilations.

With almost constant touring they eventually built up an enthusiastic following, composed mainly of young fans who appreciated the group’s down-home Dixie boogie and quasi-mystical lyrics. In 1970 they made their national debut, but big-time success eluded them until High on the Hog (1973) and Raunch ’n’ Roll/Live (1973) went gold with a slightly new lineup that included Tommy Aldridge on drum, who later went on to play with Ozzy Osbourne. They also had a #25 hit with “Jim Dandy,” which featured Dandy exchanging double entendres with a female singer, a sometime group member named Ruby Starr.
By the mid-’70s the group was a huge draw on the U.S. concert circuit, consistantly out drawing the Rolling Stones for the #1 live concert act for several years, and giving opening spots to such groups as Lynyrd Skynyrd and KISS. David Lee Roth gives credit to Jim Dandy for inspiring his stage antics.

The group sustained numerous personnel changes, and by 1977 Mangrum was the only original member of the band left. He later cited “despotic management” and the rigors of the road for driving the band apart. After recovering from a heart attack, Mangrum recorded a 1984 solo album with original Black Oak guitarist Ricky Reynolds. Several touring versions of the band existed in the ’80s and ’90s.

The current line up includes, Jim Dandy Mangrum, Rickie Lee Reynolds on guitar, Hal McCormack on guitar, George Hughen on bass and Johnnie Bolin on Drums.
